Documentation

All instructions and help files should be clear, easy to read and available in accessible electronic format. This documentation should also be designed so that it can be printed out or embossed (Braille). (CEUD 1.12).

Testing Techniques

These techniques may be used to perform the test.

Method

Manually check for online text-based documentation as well as that available in the help file. Some applications come with PDF instructions - check these can be read using a screen reader. If there are only videos to support the user this may help some, but not those who are blind unless there are alternative formats to hand.

Criteria for this Test

Poor No instructions, support or help files.
Fair Only a help file once the application has been installed.
Good Clear instructions online and a help file, but print out is the whole web page or not easy to read. No alternatives offered.
Excellent Instructions are clear, easy to read and a good help file is available. Print versions are offered as an option with clear layout so that embossing is possible.
