Description

YouTube-style site intended for instructional videos. Specifically, the site's creators would like teachers to use it for broadcasting learning content to their students. Videos are organised into a variety of channels such as Higher Education or primary etc.

Accessibility Testing Results

Despite some of the layout problems and lack of labels the site linearises well but is of limited use in text only format. The Flash player is only keyboard accessible in some browsers such as Internet Explorer. The videos can be captioned before adding to the site or it is possible to add supporting files and long descriptions. Contrast levels and zoom are good but text is small in some places.

# Test Score Summary
1Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible Fair Some of the forms do not have labels and this may create problems with some screenreaders.
2Image ALT Attributes Poor The quality of the alt tags depends on the users as media is uploaded to the site for sharing. Most videos and photos have alt tags.
3Link Target Definitions Excellent All links, including images which would otherwise be ambiguous, have titles to uniquely identify them.
4Frame Titles and Layout Excellent No frames or iframes, which can be disorientating for screen-readers, are used in the design.
5Removal of Stylesheet Excellent The page is still understandable and functional when it is viewed as a linear document, with no styles.
6Audio/Video Features Good Audio and videos can be uploaded but the latter need to be edited with captioning prior to being shared - not many videos are captioned but full text transcripts can be added.
7Video/animations - audio descriptions Good Videos can be uploaded but they need to be edited with audio descriptions or a separate audio file can be linked to the video prior to being shared. Full text transcripts can be added.
8Appropriate use of Tables Poor There are a considerable number of tables - this may cause some screenreaders to read the content in the wrong order.
9Tab Orderings Correct and Logical Excellent Tab order is reasonably logical although the lower search form makes one jump to the bottom and back again. Thereafter it is consistent top-to-bottom or left-to-right.
10Page Functionality with Keyboard Fair This site uses a Flash component for its top menu bar which seems to be unusable without a pointing device unless you track the pages it is accessing in the status bar whilst you tab around or use a screen reader! Menu bar items can be reached in text only mode.
11Accessibility of Text Editors Poor Text editor menu does not appear to be accessible with the screenreader or keyboard in most browsers. it is possible to tab out of the form.
12Appropriate Feedback with Forms Excellent The product provides suitable feedback when the user performs an action.
13Contrast and Colour Check Good Metadata of videos on selection screen fails contrast validation - however, text is not critical.
14Page Integrity when Zooming Excellent The website maintains the layout and usability of all critical areas perfectly when zoomed.
15Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability Good The majority of text on the site is size ten, which is readable but may be uncomfortable for some.
