Web 2.0 Service
Test Average: 85%
Updated 10 August 2009

Description

This service offers users a way of setting up a site where they can share their expertise and even put a value on it or 'monetize' it through the use of articles, advice and support using wiki and blog type interfaces. The way finances are built up may be through who you allow to access the pages and charges can be made through membership. It is free at the outset for the authors and it can just be used as a network of people with similar interests.

Accessibility Testing Results

On the whole this site is easy to use with good menus although the colour contrasts are not the best at times. The rich text editor is good and keyboard access possible (TinyMCE) but if widgets are added to a site this may cause problems for screen readers. Text sizes vary but zoom works well.

# Test Score Summary
1Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible Good Signup form has no labels, sign-in form does have labels.
2Image ALT Attributes Good Alternative text is not enforced for contributors.
3Link Target Definitions Excellent All links, including images which would otherwise be ambiguous, have titles to uniquely identify them.
4Frame Titles and Layout Excellent No frames or iframes, which can be disorientating for screen-readers, are used in the design.
5Removal of Stylesheet Excellent The page is still understandable and functional when it is viewed as a linear document, with no styles.
6Audio/Video Features Good Videos, audio and other widgets can be added to the blog but they need to include captions at the outset. Text transcripts or descriptions can be added.
7Video/animations - audio descriptions Good Videos, audio and other widgets can be added to the blog but they need to include audio descriptions at the outset. Text transcripts or descriptions can be added.
8Appropriate use of Tables Excellent Tables are not used for the design of this website.
9Tab Orderings Correct and Logical Excellent Tab order is in a logical and consistent top-to-bottom or left-to-right format.
10Page Functionality with Keyboard Excellent The website is fully accessible without the use of a mouse.
11Accessibility of Text Editors Excellent TinyMCE. Can Shift-Tab to go back. Good short cut keyboard commands.
12Appropriate Feedback with Forms Excellent The product provides suitable feedback when the user performs an action.
13Contrast and Colour Check Fair Headings are white on light green. Lots of text is highlighted by changing the colour and size, which slows reading. Otherwise, contrast would depend upon how the template is set by a user.
14Page Integrity when Zooming Excellent The website maintains the layout and usability of all critical areas perfectly when zoomed.
15Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability Good The majority of text on the site is size ten, which is readable but may be uncomfortable for some.
