Web 2.0 Service
Test Average: 73%

Description

myExperiment is a collaborative environment where scientists can safely publish their workflows and experiment plans, share them with groups and find those of others. Workflows, other digital objects and bundles (called Packs) can now be swapped, sorted and searched like photos and videos on the Web. Unlike Facebook or MySpace, myExperiment fully understands the needs of the researcher and makes it really easy for the next generation of scientists to contribute to a pool of scientific methods, build communities and form relationships - reducing time-to-experiment, sharing expertise and avoiding reinvention. myExperiment is now the largest public repository of scientific workflows and is Linked Data compliant.

Accessibility Testing Results

The majority of this service is accessible and there may be no need to use all the menus in the rich text editor for adding plain text. The main problem appears to be the inability to add suitable alt tags as the file names for pictures in not helpful. Some of the navigation is confusing and the site appears cluttered.

# Test Score Summary
1Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible Excellent No problems logging in with a screen reader or just keyboard access.
2Image ALT Attributes Good All images from myExperiment itself have alt tags. It appears some user-generated images (e.g. workflows) have alt tags but these are generated from the file name.
3Link Target Definitions Good All links make sense, though some are duplicated.
4Frame Titles and Layout Excellent No frames found anywhere.
5Removal of Stylesheet Poor The service is unusable without stylesheet - excessive amounts of text and links displayed (much of which is presumably hidden by the CSS), and no 'skip to next content' links are provided to bypass this.
6Audio/Video Features Excellent No audio or video features found.
7Video/animations - audio descriptions Excellent No video or animation features found.
8Appropriate use of Tables Fair Some tables do not have headings, this does not appear to impact on navigation with NVDA screen reader.
9Tab Orderings Correct and Logical Good Tag order is logical, but there is no 'skip to content' link which mean navigation by tabbing can be time consuming.
10Page Functionality with Keyboard Good The site is fully navigable with keyboard, with the exception of the rich text editor.
11Accessibility of Text Editors Fair Rich text editor buttons inaccessible via keyboard tabbing in some browsers. Not possible to tab out of text box when using Chrome.
12Appropriate Feedback with Forms Excellent Forms seem to give appropriate feedback. No time restrictions discovered.
13Contrast and Colour Check Excellent Performs well under the Juicy Toolbar contrast test.
14Page Integrity when Zooming Excellent No problems with the zoom features in any major browser.
15Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability Good Mainly sans-serif fonts. Some text too small, such as in tag clouds.
