Description

This website is a social network for worldwide book lovers, and it allows users to add links for any e-books or build a virtual book list by entering ISBN codes or book titles and users can share their list and opinions about books. In addition, users can trade, swap or lend books. The site began in Hong Kong but is now available in 49 languages and has around 15,887,009 books.

Accessibility Testing Results

The website is accessible in many areas so it is a shame that the use of labels for the forms is not more uniform in order to help screen reader users. The fonts and zooming are good and contrast levels are clear. A wonderful collection of language options and translation is available.

# Test Score Summary
1Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible Good The login form is very simple just requiring an e-mail address and password. The forms are keyboard accessible which make a navigation between field easy but there are no labels and if you use NVDA there are no prompts although the text fields can be seen in text browser like WebbIE.
2Image ALT Attributes Fair The images of book covers tend to have the word used in the search field as their alt text. This is not important as part of the content as the real title of the book is next to the picture but it is confusing. There are very few other pictures.
3Link Target Definitions Excellent All links in the web site have understandable titles. They are easy to work through in text only format.
4Frame Titles and Layout Fair Frames are used on the web site and some lack description titles which is picked up by using Accessibility toolbar but does not appear to impact on use when listening with NVDA screen reader.
5Removal of Stylesheet Excellent The content of the pages is understandable and navigation is accessible when viewed in linear format.
6Audio/Video Features Excellent The website can be linked from Twitter which is only allows for 140 characters of text and no images. Videos and audio are not used.
7Video/animations - audio descriptions Excellent The website can be linked from Twitter which is only allows for 140 characters of text and no images - video and animations are not used.
8Appropriate use of Tables Fair Some aspects within the pages are designed by using tables, and there do not appear to be some headings but they do not seem to affect the use of NVDA and linearise well.
9Tab Orderings Correct and Logical Excellent Tab order in pages is logical and texts can be read top-to-bottom or left-to-right when using WebbIE and Thunder screen reader.
10Page Functionality with Keyboard Excellent Pages are fully accessible without using a mouse and there are no media players or items that may impact on the choice of browser.
11Accessibility of Text Editors Fair This web site does not have a rich text editor. All forms use simple text but without the labels some are not screen reader accessible.
12Appropriate Feedback with Forms Excellent The website provides good feedback when the user fills in a form and it is accessible for screen reader.
13Contrast and Colour Check Excellent The contrast on this site passes validation, and the text is easy to read with black on white background. Mouse users can also have pale coloured backgrounds as they hover over a book's description.
14Page Integrity when Zooming Excellent The web pages navigation and readability is good at a high level of zoom (magnification)
15Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability Excellent The web site uses adequate font sizes clearly and the language is easy to read, although in places it depends on the users. There are no blinking items.
