Description
This site has been developed to allow you to Mashup your RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds into one page, or into mobile friendly pages. It means that the latest updates from your blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video updates can be stored in one place. This service is still in Beta and the developers are trying to build a community.
Accessibility Testing Results
This was a hopeless site for a screen reader user. If alternatives could have been offered for the initial graphics and the accessibility of the asynchronous javascript examined it would have been easy to use the forms and add data to the site. Keyboard navigation between all the feeds and sections was variable with the inability to tab to features that would have cut down the amount of tabbing. Some text was very pale and the tag cloud was almost unreadable in places.
| # | Test | Score | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible | ![]() |
The CAPTCHA offered had no alternative although the login box was well labelled and had good keyboard access. |
| 2 | Image ALT Attributes | ![]() |
The first page of the site is largely made up of graphics acting as links and these are read as "void zero graphical link". The site is not accessible to a screen reader user. |
| 3 | Link Target Definitions | ![]() |
Some are accessible but the main features of the service have to be accessed through a javascript system of graphics which have no labels or alt attributes. |
| 4 | Frame Titles and Layout | ![]() |
There are no frames but this does not help the screen reader accessibility of the service as it is based AJAX (asynchronous JavaScript) without any accessibility features added. |
| 5 | Removal of Stylesheet | ![]() |
It is possible to remove the stylesheets and still use the site but the order of the features may not always be logical. |
| 6 | Audio/Video Features | ![]() |
There are no alternatives offered if you are unable to cope with the graphical navigation. But otherwise the forms are clear and there is no audio or video. |
| 7 | Video/animations - audio descriptions | ![]() |
There is no audio or video and it would have helped to have had alternatives for the images |
| 8 | Appropriate use of Tables | ![]() |
No tables are used as part of the navigational elements but as the forms are all in asynchronous javascript (AJAX) this does not make any difference to a screen reader user. |
| 9 | Tab Orderings Correct and Logical | ![]() |
Tab order was good where keyboard access was possible. |
| 10 | Page Functionality with Keyboard | ![]() |
It was possible to use the forms with a keyboard and navigate around each section. The problem came when moving between different sections and pages. |
| 11 | Accessibility of Text Editors | ![]() |
There are no rich text editors but the forms lack labels to help screen reader users. |
| 12 | Appropriate Feedback with Forms | ![]() |
The only feedback comes when you check whether your entries appear in the appropriate page or you are allowed to access the next stage. |
| 13 | Contrast and Colour Check | ![]() |
Some features have good contrast levels but the tag cloud and some main links are very poorly represented with light grey on white. |
| 14 | Page Integrity when Zooming | ![]() |
Good zooming in all browsers. The pages remain intact with not text overlays. |
| 15 | Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability | ![]() |
Sans serif fonts were used throughout but the contrast levels were poor and trying to read all the words in the tag cloud was difficult. There were no blinking elements. |
