Description

Teambox could be useful for working with colleagues on a project or for setting up a method for students to collaborate. It is possible to create a group calendar of due dates, discuss issues with team members, send emails, load up files and share the contents. The free service can be used online or downloaded as an open source application.

Accessibility Testing Results

This service had all the appearances of being very accessible with an easy log-in and clear navigation plus simple instructions. However, it could not be used with WebbIE and Thunder and parts were only accessible when using the bleeps and mouse with NVDA screen reader. Keyboard access was good although the tabbing was clearer in Internet Explorer compared to Firefox. There were elements that could be hidden and others that just appeared without a separate window. They could be seen in a text layout but I would be uncomfortable saying the site was totally accessible although it was easy to use.

# Test Score Summary
1Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible Good Login in only requires name, email address and company. An email is then sent to your in-box. It looks simple and clear with good feedback on the screen, there is keyboard access and NVDA reads the content - at times only under the mouse with the help of guiding beeps. WebbIE does not see any links and you cannot login with a text browser.
2Image ALT Attributes Excellent There are very few images and they are appropriately labelled.
3Link Target Definitions Excellent These are good, short and to the point.
4Frame Titles and Layout Fair There is a main frames and two iframes that affect the ability of the user to change colour backgrounds and text colouring. Stylesheets appear to be used to hide sections and this does not help a screen reader user.
5Removal of Stylesheet Excellent There appeared to be no problems when the stylesheet was removed.
6Audio/Video Features Excellent This site has no audio or video and the graphics are simple.
7Video/animations - audio descriptions Fair There are no video or audio elements to this site. Images have good descriptions but the site was not altogether accessible for a screen reader user.
8Appropriate use of Tables Good There appears to be only one table. This has been used for the calendar and it does not make for easy reading when the layout is removed or it is listened to with a screen reader. However, the calendar is not used as part of the process of setting up appointments.
9Tab Orderings Correct and Logical Excellent Tab order is good and keyboarding around the site is correct but it has to be said that use of embedded stylesheets to unfold elements does not help despite the fact they appear in the text version when activated.
10Page Functionality with Keyboard Good This is good on the whole, however there are times when features are invisible and can only be activated with a mouse. There are other ways of reaching these elements.
11Accessibility of Text Editors Excellent The rich text editor is used for making notes. It has access keys and good labelling.
12Appropriate Feedback with Forms Good There is good text feedback at each stage. However, there is a comments widget from Get Satisfaction which is not accessible - it floats above the page and is not seen by text browsers although it can be reached by the keyboard when the form can be read but with no description.
13Contrast and Colour Check Fair The entire site is text based with forms and links. Some of the links are very pale grey and do not respond well when used with a different colour backgrounds as they are in an iframe.
14Page Integrity when Zooming Excellent Generally good zooming in all the browsers.
15Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability Good Some text was small but on the whole the site was readable and there were no flashing features or items to distract you other than the comment widget which tended to overlay the main area.
