Accessibility Testing Results
By using a Java applet, the accessibility of this service is restricted, as it failed to be read by Thunder screenreader. Charts are displayed as iframes on the gallery page, which causes more problems, and have no description to explain what they are showing.
| # | Test | Score | Summary |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible | ![]() |
Signup and login is not required. Forms are shown in the Java applet, which can not be read by Thunder, and can not be opened by WebbIE. |
| 2 | Image ALT Attributes | ![]() |
Images on the site have alt tags, but the charts do not and would not be accessible to a screenreader user. |
| 3 | Link Target Definitions | ![]() |
Links generally have identifiers, although when viewed in WebbIE, many are repeated, and there is a long list of Javascript titled links. |
| 4 | Frame Titles and Layout | ![]() |
The page uses iframes to display the gallery of charts that users have created. This may cause problems for screenreader users. |
| 5 | Removal of Stylesheet | ![]() |
The site content and navigation is accessible without the stylesheet. |
| 6 | Audio/Video Features | ![]() |
The site does not deal with multimedia content. |
| 7 | Video/animations - audio descriptions | ![]() |
The site does not deal with multimedia content but as the charts are made in an inaccessible format for screen readers it would have helped to have had an alternative. |
| 8 | Appropriate use of Tables | ![]() |
The gallery of user created charts uses a large table, which has no headings. |
| 9 | Tab Orderings Correct and Logical | ![]() |
Tab ordering is generally logical, in a top-to-bottom or left-to-right format. |
| 10 | Page Functionality with Keyboard | ![]() |
The site can be accessed without the mouse, and the Java applet for creating charts can be navigated with the keyboard, although this is not easy and may cause problems for a wide range of users. |
| 11 | Accessibility of Text Editors | ![]() |
There is no rich text editor on the site. The text editor used for describing charts can be tabbed in to and out again. |
| 12 | Appropriate Feedback with Forms | ![]() |
There is no feedback given on the forms. |
| 13 | Contrast and Colour Check | ![]() |
Some colour combinations, such as blue text on white background, may cause problems for some users. However text contrast is generally ok, and charts depend on the colours chosen by users. |
| 14 | Page Integrity when Zooming | ![]() |
The page, and Java applet both zoom well. |
| 15 | Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability | ![]() |
A lot of text on the site is quite small which may cause problems for some users, but sans-serif fonts are used and there is no flashing or blinking content. |
