Web 2.0 Service
Test Average: 73%
Updated 26 August 2009

Description

Website where people can publish instructional slide shows, photos and videos on almost any topic. Users can comment and share content and text instructions can be included with the step by step approach. Some are very detailed and helpful on a wide range of project topics which started in MIT.

Accessibility Testing Results

Much of the accessibility of the content for this service depends on the users and videos are not necessarily captioned but some come with written explanations of each stage in the project. Slides may appear with text below but no 'alt tags'. Navigation is good and layout easy to follow with good instructions for the use of the site. Zoom to make reading easier is possible and does not upset the layout in most places. The orange and white plus yellow are not ideal combinations for some but the majority of the text to background contrast is good and can be altered by browser changes.

# Test Score Summary
1Login, Signup and Other Forms Accessible Good Sign-up and sign-in has titles but no labels so some forms are hard to fill in with a screen reader. There is a recaptcha but the audio is hard to understand.
2Image ALT Attributes Fair Very few images have alternative text although they tend to be linked to a text description.
3Link Target Definitions Excellent All links, including images which would otherwise be ambiguous, have titles to uniquely identify them.
4Frame Titles and Layout Excellent No frames or iframes, which can be disorientating for screen-readers, are used in the design.
5Removal of Stylesheet Excellent The page is still understandable and functional when it is viewed as a linear document, with no styles.
6Audio/Video Features Fair Most items have graphics with descriptions to lead the person through the way you make something. Videos are embedded from outside sites and have to come with captioning if it is included.
7Video/animations - audio descriptions Fair Most items have graphics with descriptions to lead the person through the way you make something. Videos are embedded from outside sites and have to come with audio descriptions included.
8Appropriate use of Tables Excellent Tables are not used for the design of this website.
9Tab Orderings Correct and Logical Excellent Tab order is in a logical and consistent top-to-bottom or left-to-right format.
10Page Functionality with Keyboard Good Many of the critical pages within this site can be navigated and controlled without a pointing device.
11Accessibility of Text Editors Fair The text editor can be used, but there is no access to the toolbar and rich text tools.
12Appropriate Feedback with Forms Excellent The product provides suitable feedback when the user performs an action.
13Contrast and Colour Check Good Main menu and tag lists both fail validation due to white/yellow combination.
14Page Integrity when Zooming Excellent The website maintains the layout and usability of all critical areas perfectly when zoomed.
15Text size, style, blinking elements and Readability Good The majority of text on the site is size ten, which is readable but may be uncomfortable for some.
